About us
OKay so
Who the F are you anyway?
My name is unpronounceable and I'm an affront to the natural order of the universe. At least according to some people.
Others say I'm pretty cool.
You can call me N.

What and why
Oh gods, so many reasons. Life is a cosmic joke? I needed something to do? I felt guilty having nice things? I'm lonely? I think life is better with people?
...was that unprofessional?
I mean, uhh.... Synergy! Innovation! Human Resources!
(boom. saved it.)
No but actually - We can make the world a better place
And it starts with tomfoolery and people
Everything, all the ills, all the goods, all the best and worst parts of life, it's all just people.
Companies? People. Governments? People. Your coworkers? People.
Even that asshole over there - also a person.
Improvement is effective when it aims at reality.
So if reality is people... and we want improvements... we should... improve the lives of the people?
"But everybody wants different things" I hear you say. Maybe. But also the same things. Time. Space. Fun.
(and Food. Shelter. Clean Water. Clean Air. Love.)
^-- This is who I am. This is what I believe.
I'm working to give people that. Time, space, a source of fun. So that they can recharge and pass it on.
The avenue happens to be pottery. Pottery is something I enjoy too. Almost as much as people.
So get out there, do some wacky shit, and remember that all will be forgotten save the people you helped. Because people live on.
Besides - what the fuck else are we going to do?
Uh you went a bit off the rails there...
Oh
yeah
I kinda did
didn't I....
Well
This is supposed to be "about" me
And this isn't not me...
But okay. I can change :'(
Seattle Clay Exchange
is a fun little way for me to make the world a better place by helping people build community and engage more fully in life in the process.
I have 3 goals
Build community
#1That's by helping people - helping people find pottery spaces, help pottery spaces find people, helping people get back into their hobby... give people a place to touch grass.... or you know, mud....
Get free clay
#2Buying clay to give away to people is going to wear me down. Plus I would have to choose what kind of clay to buy! I hate choice paralysis!!! And, am I even good enough to be using this clay? But every time someone brings a new clay for me to work with? Gimmie gimmie! I want to try the new stuff!!
Do science
#3"You can't measure plasticity" - fuck you
"XX is the way it's usually done" - why?
"if you harvested the clay during a waxing crescent between June and-" Please. Please just tell me how much water I need to add to this clay block. Please.
...and 4 MORE goals
Streamline Reclaim Process
#4Yes a plaster slab and some slurry works... but is it the best way? Can I do it faster? With less mess? Without heavy equipment?
Minimize loss of fines
#5The pillowcase method is probably the highest throughput method out there. But all that clay staining the fabric is claim you might wish you had later... especially if it is preferentially fines.
Make it sustainable
#6In terms of effort, in terms of water, in terms of time.... listen I know the infinite answer is like, 35 pugmills and a small warehouse... but that's loud. And expensive. Can't we start small first?
Nerd Out
#7Nepheline Syenite dissolution? Precipitate blooms? Excess talc shortness?
I want to experience this first hand.
"Seattle" Clay Exchange? How self centered
Okay listen.... I've been going back and forth on the name a lot. Seattle Clay Exchange? Seattle Area Clay Exchange? Puget Sound Clay Exchange? Pottery Ninja (hrgh oh god startup flashbacks)
I want people to connect throughout the region. And there are cities and town with pottery scenes that aren't Seattle (allegedly).
But that's dreams, babe. I need to start somewhere. And (almost) everyone I know lives or works in Seattle. So.... we start here.
